The agony and the ecstasy of the song contest

Few people would admit to enjoying it, but nonetheless the Eurovision Song Contest is a hugely popular televisual event in Europe. And now you can follow the croon-off on your iPhone thanks to this neat app.

Eurovision houses a wealth of news and information about the contest in a well-organized tabbed interface. The 'Latest news' section brings you official coverage of all the rehearsals, as well as live updates on the final itself. There's also a 'Moscow' tab which provides plenty of interesting background information on the city, the country of Russia, and the venue.

Perhaps the most useful part of the Eurovision app is the 'Participants' section. Here you'll find a country-by-country run-down of all the acts in the final and even those who failed at the semi final stage. This makes for the ideal companion for Eurovision night, as you'll be able to swot up on each artist by reading the detailed entries on each one. The glaring omission from this section though is the ability to listen to or watch each of the songs.

There is a 'Video' section which offers clips of interviews, reactions and rehearsals, but again, this doesn't include video of the songs.

While it's a shame you can't listen to the songs, the Eurovision app is worth having at your side as a reference while you're watching the event.
